Coming on Sunday: 'NYT' Visits Rachel Maddow at Home
The New York Times Magazine in a two-page spread titled “Domains” often pays a visit to a well-known individual’s home. This week’s subject would not have been in that famed category a year ago but now the new MSNBC primetimer Rachel Maddow gets the royal visit at what it calls her “1865 house in western Massachusetts.” We see her with her dog plus snaps of favorite objects, such as a squirrel sculpture, four kinds of mustard from her fridge (“I am a mustard person"), a favorite sneaker, two ashtrays from the Watergate hotel, and her 7-year-old red Ford pickup. “We have no television,” Maddow confesses. Her partner, Susan, “wants to buy one, but where we live there’s no cable.”
Fictional character she identifies with: "Wally Cleaver. Cause he is a dork.” We also learn: "I am a hobbyist bartender. I have a a liquor cabinet. I research classic drinks from the golden age of American cocktails and I make them for me and Susan.” Favorite place to shop: “I don’t shop.” Concession to vanity: "I’ve had to get contact lenses.” Favorite movie: The Manchurian Candidate, original version. Obsolete item she won’t part with: A stockpile of lawn mowers. Worst job: Waitressing. After the election: "I won't do anything I don't have to for awhile."

I have listened to Rachel on her radio shows for years and am so happy she has her own TV show! I consider Rachel
a Freedom Fighter who is informed and
courageous while willing to enlighten her fellow citizens at the expense of
ridicule and criticism of her personal
freedoms. As a fellow human being and American I am proud of Rachel Maddow.

We have been fans of Rachel's from the beginning at Air America through the 5am spot and to see her flourish is fantastic.
She is so very smart and a truly kind and good person.
She speaks truth to power and we can only hope we see more of her for many years to come.
CONGRATS!

Finally, some intelligent and spirited and genuine liberalism on cable news (along with Keith Olberman). Rachel is a person I would love to sit down at dinner and discuss politics over the meal and then after-dinner coffee and then long into the night. She is adorable.

Rachel is a true Journalist - the kind who might help save our country - if it is not too late. She is my hero. Thank goodness she has come on the scene in time to support Olbermann, Maher and Stewart. Another bright voice to light the darkness. Rachel rocks!

the first time i saw her on msnbc giving her analysis of whatever it was that she was being asked to comment on at the time, i turned to my husband and said, "they have to give her her own show."

I loved Rachel from the moment I heard her on Air America. When she was a guest on Keith Olbermann's show I was delighted and now that she has her own show I am thrilled. Rachel is unflappable and so knowledgeable that even crazy idelaogues have to respect her. Hopefully Rachel will be on the air for years to come.
