Crossing Paths With Paul Newman -- in a Race for the White House

Newman1968 I've just posted a tribute to the late actor over at E&P, recalling when we both got involved, with the same candidate (Gene McCarthy), in the 1968 presidential race.  I was a young reporter/student and he was a Hollywood campaign activist--then (unlike today) a rare and brave thing.  The photo at left shows Paul on the floor of the riotous 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago.  That's Arthur Miller behind him--a fellow McCarthy delegate.  Below, a video of Newman speaking out against the war a few months after McCarthy's defeat. -- Greg Mitchell

I absolutely loved and appreciated your tribute to Paul Newman. I wanted to write to the local Dallas TX paper about this aspect of him and its relevance to today. This inspired me even more. Thanks for giving us a sense of what it must have been like to be there. What a wonderful and humble man.
